ESL Instructor in Adult Education Dept at Santa Fe Community College
In search of ESL Instructors for the 2024-2025 academic year to teach 5-hour per week classes.
This is for teaching classes IN-PERSON at our sites in Santa Fe, New Mexico
14-week semesters in the Fall and Spring. Fall semester will run from mid-August until the week before Thanksgiving. Spring semester will run from mid-January to early May. We usually have a 4-week summer session in June.
Classes meet 5 hours per week [twice weekly for 2.5 hours per session].
Contracts are granted on a 1 contract per class basis. Contract amounts are calculated on educational attainment and # of years working at SFCC for the hourly rate – the typical range is $36 – 39/hour. Classes are 5 hours per week at 70 hours total per semester.
Minimum qualifications are BA degree in any field + ESL-related teaching certificate such as TEFL, TESL, CELTA, DELTA. Master’s Degree in TESOL, Linguistics or Education is preferred. Knowledge of adult learning principles and methodologies is a plus.

Instructors are responsible for teaching 70 contact hours, surveying students to understand their strengths and needs, tracking students for retention purposes, recording attendance, proctoring pre- and post-testing during class hours in the semester, and completing any trainings necessary.

ESL Program Specialist in Adult Education Dept at Santa Fe Community College
The ESL Program in SFCC Adult Education is seeking a full-time person to teach 50% time and 50% ESL Program administrative support. BA in any field with supplemental certification in TESL, TEFL, CELTA, or DELTA is the minimum qualification. However, sufficient experience teaching ESL to adult learners may substitute for certification. Multi-lingualism and Master's Degree in TESOL, Linguistics, or Education are preferred.

Position Summary
Coordinates the testing operations of the Adult Education (AE) Academic Career Education (ACE) program and teaches assigned classes. Provides leadership to AE faculty and staff and administrative support to AE program managers. Must be committed to serving a diverse college community. Actively participates in and contributes to continuous quality improvement.
This is a Fixed-Term (TERM) position, therefore continuous employment is contingent upon further position funding and/or need.
This position will have the opportunity to enjoy a hybrid work schedule as determined by the Director of Adult Education, combining both remote work and in-office presence, allowing for flexibility and work-life balance.
Duties & Responsibilities
Coordinates operations of all assessments related to the ACE program with other department instructional areas.
Organizes program components, including intake, orientation, instruction, assessment and student evaluation of instruction.
Tracks student learning level increase and accomplishment of goals.
Assists with student transition to other programs of study or jobs.
Collaborates in departmental grant writing activities, departmental planning and reporting, needs assessments, surveys, and state evaluations.
Leads faculty initiatives to develop and provide curriculum and textbooks for College and Career Readiness.
Plans and implements ACE testing on assessments and student advising activities.
Provides expertise in best practices in Adult Education.
Collaborates with AE program coordinators to recruit and offer complimentary and transitional services to students in need.
Instructs ACE program classes as assigned.
Participates in leadership activities and campus collaborations.
Collaborates with the ESL and Literacy Volunteers components of the AE program.
Collaborates with Santa Fe Community College (SFCC) departments and programs.
Teaches I-Best Classes as assigned.
